A roundup of FFA news for the week of Feb. 4, 2010

ALBANY, Ohio — The Alexander FFA chapter held a chapter meeting Jan. 27.

Topics that were discussed and voted upon included making committees for the banquet, creating an audit committee for our treasurer’s records, buying a new camera for the chapter reporter and also discussing the notion of holding the chapter officer elections in February to ensure that the newly elected officers can make an effective transition into their new posts.

In relevance to the chapter participation, there are several members preparing themselves for upcoming CDE competitions. Some of the competitions include Job Interview, Ag Sales and Public Speaking.

In addition, the chapter is also working on completing SAE record books, filling out State Degree, American Degree and Proficiency Award applications.

ASHLAND, Ohio — The Mapleton school board approved a new Animal Science 131 class at their last meeting. The class will be taught by FFA adviser Charlie Warthling.

Three college credits will be awarded to those who pass the animal science course. The three college credits will transfer to any college in the U.S. For those who continue on an agricultural major the credits will count as there class credits. Students who go a different path will be able to us their credits as elective credits.

The class does have a fee involved and will be decided at the next school board meeting. More information about the course will be given out as the school year continues.

GNADENHUTTEN, Ohio — The Indian Valley FFA chapter recently selected their student of the quarter for each grade level.

The students selected were; freshman, Brianna Hamilton; sophomore, Cassie Glazer; junior, Dakota Murphy and senior, Kristen Stiles.

Brianna Hamilton participated in Parliamentary Procedure contests, Rake-N-Walks, the Thanksgiving Food Drive, Share-A-Christmas and more ending with 43 activity points for the quarter.

Cassie Glazer participated in Parliamentary Procedure contests, Rake-N-Walks, the Thanksgiving Food Drive, fruit sales, Share-A-Christmas and more ending with 39 activity points.

Junior Dakota Murphy participated in the trap shoot, blood drive, fruit sales, Share-A-Christmas and more ending with 31 activity points for the quarter.

Finally, senior Kristen Stiles participated in blood drives, Rake-N-Walks, the Thanksgiving Food Drive, Share-A-Christmas, Parliamentary Procedure contests and Food Science ending with 74 for activity points for the quarter.
