JEROMESVILLE, Ohio — The Hillsdale FFA sent 22 members to Indianapolis for National Convention. Among the members, there were two teams: Poultry and Parliamentary Procedure.

Hannah Crossen chaired sessions and gave her retiring address as she ended her year as the National Eastern-Region vice president.

Addie Runkle, Kristin Flickinger and Mike Dyer received the American FFA Degree at the convention Oct. 24. It is the highest degree awarded by the National FFA Organization and recognizes Addie, Kristin and Mike’s demonstrated leadership abilities and outstanding achievements in agricultural business, production, processing and service programs.

At the convention, Hillsdale had a team of four students competing in the area of Poultry Evaluation. The team consisted of Mariah Gibbons, Michael Shuck, Tecca Zimmerman and Michelle Funk.

The team placed eighth in the nation.

Each team competed at local and state levels to get the privilege of representing their state at the National FFA Convention.

The Hillsdale FFA chapter had six members compete in the National Parliamentary Procedure Career Development Event at the convention. The team consisted of Brittani Baldner-Hill, Kelsey Clark, Kelsey Haas, Kelsey King, Jeffrey Stimmell and Sara Tallmadge.

The Hillsdale FFA chapter earned the right to compete by placing first at the state contest. At nationals, the team earned a silver rating.

HANOVERTON, Ohio — United FFA’s crop fields produced very well this year. The 20 acres of land that the FFA owns was planted in soybeans.

The Vo-Ag classes use the fields as part of their crop science studies. Brad Baker, the FFA’s honorary member, harvests and hauls the crops each year for the FFA.

WEST SALEM, Ohio — The Northwestern Agriculture Sales Team attended the national Future Farmers of America convention in Indianapolis, Ind. Oct. 21- 24.

competed after winning the state contest last March.

The team consisted of Alison McGinnis, Jerrin Hill, Kelsey Bowers, and Zach Hottel. The team was coached by FFA advisor Dan Fulk. During this event the members had to conduct an individual sales presentation.

After the four vigorous days of competition, the members skills paid off with them receiving 7th place in the nation and a gold rating. Jerrin Hill achieved 13th place individually. Jerrin Hill and Kelsey Bowers were presented with gold medals and Alison McGinnis and Zach Hottel received silver medals.

COLLINS, Ohio — The Western Reserve FFA Chapter attended the Nation FFA Convention in Indianapolis. The Western Reserve FFA traveled on a charter bus with Wellington FFA and Firelands FFA.

The Western Reserve chapter attended the American Degree Ceremony during the convention. Two members from the chapter received their American Degree, Seth Todd and Megan Hembree, both Western Reserve graduates.

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A total of 34 Zane Trace FFA members and six Paint Valley FFA members attended the FFA national convention Oct. 23 and 24.

Besides attending the conference, they also got to attend the Buckeye Bash and toured the Indianapolis Motor Speedway where they enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of the track, media center, pits and winners circle.

In addition, four members of the Zane Trace FFA Chapter officer team attended the Chapter Officer Leadership Training Conference held at Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium in Columbus.

Those attending included: President, Nick Ganus, Vice-president DJ Jordan, Secretary Emily Wright and Treasurer Chelsi Hempstead. While at the conference they joined other officers from around the state in activities designed to help them become stronger leaders.

On Oct. 9, the Zane Trace FFA held their third annual ribeye roast fundraiser during the Zane Trace versus Westfall football game. The group earned $869 toward the trip with the fundraiser. The money raised helped a number of members in the Zane Trace FFA Chapter to afford to attend the convention this year.

ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Marlington FFA soil judging team traveled to Wilmington, Ohio to compete in the Ohio FFA Soil Judging contest.

Seniors Dylan Tasker and Jesse Bettis and juniors Steven Parker and John Sinkovich represented the Marlington FFA.

During the contest students evaluate land based on several physical characteristics including texture, water level, landforms, and severity of slope. The students determine in the urban division if the land is suitable for buildings with basements, septic systems, landscaping or roads and driveways.

The team placed 32nd out of over 50 teams at the state level. Steven Parker was the high scoring individual on the team placing 30th of over 250 individuals.

The Marlington FFA Chapter also attended the National FFA convention. A total of 12 students made the trip, senior Jesse Bettis, junior’s Emily Conrad, Jasmine Sambroak, John Sinkovich, Amber Shoemaker, Lisa Sutton, sophomore’s Becca Faverty, Zack Hoover and freshman Daniel Farnham, Haley Faverty, Josh Reiter and Ashley Wilson. While traveling to Indianapolis the students visited Freshwater Farms, Urbana, Ohio where they learned more about the aquaculture industry and fish farming principals.

SULLIVAN, Ohio — The Black River FFA is off to a productive start.

Ag 1 is in the middle of their safety test so they can go into the shop. Ag 2 is learning new welding skills and the advanced Ag is working in the shop on metal toolboxes.

The hog roast Oct. 13 was a fun time for all.

Nine members went to the 2009 FFA National Convention Oct. 21-24.
