Hello Again!
Your local Farm Service Agency needs your help! We are seeking nominees to serve as a candidate for the county committee and you may be the right person for the job!
Each county office will hold an election in the Local Administrative Area in which the current committee member’s three-year term is set to expire.
If you, or someone you know, are interested in becoming a member on your local county committee, check with your local office to ensure you are an eligible voter within the Local Administrative Area that is holding the election.
You will need to complete a nominating petition agreeing to serve for a three-year term and the office will want a short biography to share with the voters.
Nominations will be accepted from June 15 through Aug. 1, with the election being held later in the year.
If elected, you will become a member of a three-to five-member committee system. You will be responsible for the administration of federal farm programs, hearing appeals from local producers and making fair, unbiased decisions.
Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
– Employing the office manager and directing day-to-day operations;
– Making policy decisions and recommending changes to the state committee;
– Developing and carrying out active outreach programs;
– Promoting good working relationships with other agricultural agencies and the general public; and
– Ensuring every farmer and the general public understand FSA programs.
As you can only imagine, this is no easy task with changes occurring constantly. There is a tremendous amount of pressure on the committee to keep current with all the program changes and understand the impact they make at the local level.
With every decision made, the committee’s first priority is to treat every farmer fairly. To ensure the Farm Service Agency policies are carried out fairly, a diverse committee system is essential.
FSA’s goal is to have an election ballot that is as diverse as our agricultural community. We need your help to accomplish this goal, nominate yourself or someone you know!
Additional information regarding our agency and the county committee election process can be found at www.fsa.usda.gov/FSA. This site will also provide a link to an election fact sheet and the nomination form (FSA-669A).
That’s all for now,
FSA Andy
