Germany’s Capri Sun maker turns to OARDC for help

COLUMBUS — Rudolf WILD GmbH & Co. KG of Heidelberg, Germany, is turning to the Ohio State University’s Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center for research and development services.

The research agreement targets processing, packaging and storage techniques for fruits, vegetables, beverages and a selection of prepared entrees.

WILD, the manufacturer of Capri Sun fruit drinks, is the world’s leading privately owned manufacturer of natural-flavor ingredients for the food and beverage industry.

These technologies will be further developed as a result of the collaboration with WILD.

Founded in 1931, WILD’s Capri Sun fruit drinks made the company a market leader in Germany in the mid-1970s. The line and is now produced in 18 countries and sold in more than 100 nations.

Why OARDC?

“The researchers at OARDC are on the leading edge of applied uses for ohmic heating, rapid cooling and aseptic packaging,” said Axel de With, WILD’s chief research officer. “These technologies offer great promise for us.”

With research facilities in Columbus and Wooster, Ohio, OARDC is the nation’s largest university agbioscience research center.

Through its Center for Advanced Processing and Packaging Studies, OARDC scientists carries out leading-edge applied research in areas such as environmentally sound and energy-efficient heating, rapid cooling for aseptic processing, extended product shelf-life, and self-contained pouch packaging.
