MINERVA, Ohio — Minerva High School FFA held its monthly meeting Oct. 28.

They discussed the treasurer’s report and the secretary’s minutes. They also discussed the committee reports which includes T-shirt and fruit sale committees. T-shirts will be $10, and they are the same style as last year.

The fruit sales ended Nov. 10. Shrimp sales will start after the holidays.

The parliamentary procedure team has been practicing for the contest at the end of November.

HANOVERTON, Ohio — United Local graduate and former FFA President Chad Raber recently received his American Degree at National FFA Convention In Indianapolis.

Raber is currently attending Wilmington College. Chad is the son of Don and Debbie Raber of Salem, Ohio. He was one of the 3,341 American Degrees out of more than 500,000 FFA members in America.

United FFA adviser Doug Sutton, and his wife Valerie, took 18 United and six Southern Local FFA members, and their adviser Shelley Pirogowicz, to Indianapolis for the three-day convention.

On the way to Indianapolis, students visited the National Museum of the United States Air Force. While in Indianapolis, the group visited the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

CRESTON, Ohio — Eighteen Norwayne FFA members, along with adviser Aaron Arnold and Doug and Rhonda Billman, traveled to the National FFA Convention Oct. 21.

The convention was held in Indianapolis from Oct. 21-25.

The first stop was at The Ohio State University College of Agriculture and Ohio Stadium. They also toured the Wright-Paterson National Air Force Museum and then continued onto Indianapolis.

Eric Billman represented Norwayne FFA chapter by singing in the National Talent Contest.

Member Jesse Rose received the golden key of the American FFA Degree. This is the highest honor that the National FFA can bestow upon a member.

COLLINS, Ohio — Richard Bolden, a member of the Western Reserve FFA Chapter from Wakeman, Ohio, recently received the American FFA Degree Oct. 25 at the 81st National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.

Earning the degree means Bolden is one of a select group of individuals to be recognized for years of academic and professional excellence.

Thirteen members of the Western Reserve took part in the convention.

SMITHVILLE, Ohio — Fifteen Smithville FFA members and one chaperone went to Indianapolis for the National FFA Convention Oct. 21-25.

Three members of the chapter, Tim Gresser, Terry Nickles and Paul Mercer, received the American Degree Award.

Members spent time at the career show and visiting more than 350 exhibitors.

WEST SALEM, Ohio — The Northwestern FFA Chapter was fortunate enough to have the opportunity for 17 members to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis Oct. 21.

Members Rachael Gortner, Lisa Zavesky, Danae Mulligan, Jessica Wellert, Kelsey Bowers, Alison McGinnis, Kayleigh Rupert, Chris Thomas, David Devore, Nathan Garver, Bruce Maximovich, Matt Dillon, Jerrin Hill, Tori Campbell, Katie Kidd, Brittany Mowrer and Katryna Ousley attended the event.

Members attended sessions Thursday and Friday and heard the retiring addresses from National FFA officers Becky Sullivan, Kari Boettcher and Morgan Parker.

INDIANAPOLIS — Daniel Elwood, a member of the Margaretta FFA Chapter, received the American Degree at the 81st National FFA Convention in Indianapolis Oct. 25.

The American Degree is the highest degree awarded by the National FFA Organization and recognizes Elwood’s demonstrated leadership abilities and outstanding achievements in agricultural business, productions, processing and service programs.

Elwood is the son of Rhonda and Dan Elwood.

His agricultural education instructors and FFA advisers were Tim Niemeyer and Kevin Kremer.

Elwood received a gold American Degree key and a certificate to commemorate the achievement, one of only 3,133 to be recognized in 2008.

RAVENNA, Ohio — Allen Schmitz, state president, demonstrated the importance of tolerance, team work and opportunities in the FFA to more than 100 students enrolled in the Agricultural Education Department at Southeast High School.

During the lunch blocks, Schmitz talked with the Southeast FFA officer team about new techniques to enhance the chapter FFA.
