ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Marlington FFA Chapter held its monthly meeting Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the horticulture building. There were 12 members and numerous guests present.
The chapter discussed several items including donation of money to Akron Children’s Hospital, flag football and the upcoming fruit sale.
The kickoff of the sale was at the meeting and fruit will be sold through Nov. 14.

MERCER, Pa. — Lawrence County’s Ag. Encounter was held Oct. 7-8 at the Lawrence County fairgrounds where fourth graders participated in different activities about agriculture and how food comes from farms and ends up in supermarkets.
Some of the learning stations included beef cattle, sheep, dairy cattle, swine, poultry, bee keeping, apple harvesting, vegetables, forestry, conservation and soybeans.
Laurel FFA manned the beef cattle booth while seeing the fourth graders from all over Lawrence County.
Fall Round-Up was held Oct. 16 at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds where FFA chapters from the Western Region participated in numerous competitions.
The chapter participated and also conducted Ag Olympics to keep the FFA students busy while tallying of scores was being done. The chapter was successful as they took 54 students to this event.
WEST SALEM, Ohio — On Oct. 11, the Northwestern FFA Rural and Urban Soil Judging teams traveled to the Historic Smeck Farm in Baltimore, Ohio, for the State Soil Career Development Event.
The rural team consisted of Tessa Hershey, Brittany Mowrer, Sabrina Johnson and Danae Mulligan.
The team placed 34th in Ohio.
The urban team consisted of Jessica Wellert, Alison McGinnis, Adam Krueger and Kelsey Bowers.
The urban team placed 17th overall.
MERCER, Pa. — Katherine Majors, daughter of Kimberly Majors, received the American Degree Oct. 25 at the FFA National Convention.
Majors is a 2003 Laurel High School graduate. Her supervised agricultural experience of three years included raising 15 market hogs, one market lamb and working as a receptionist and technician at Apple Grove Veterinary Clinic.
Majors is the first FFA member from Laurel to receive this award in approximately 35 years.
She is now attending the Veterinary Technician Institute of Pittsburgh and plans to graduate in 2009.
ANDOVER, Ohio — The Pymatuning Valley FFA chapter has been working on many things this school year.
The chapter started its mentor program with the first-year members. Chapter members have participated in the homecoming and fall festival parades this month.
Some members also painted a fence at a local cemetery.
The chapter’s harvest party was Oct. 28 and the last day of fruit sales is Oct. 31.
